Music Library

Inspiring a love of learning through music and reading.

Shanan Colvin, music educator, homeschool mom and creator of the book based subscription box for kids, Music Library. Inspiring a love of learning through music and reading.

Hello! I’m Shanan, music educator, homeschooling parent and creator of Music Library. I fell in love with the idea of using literature to introduce young learners to music when I discovered the book The Magic Flute about Mozart’s opera of the same name. I was a camp counselor at the Dougherty Arts Center in Austin, Texas, just beginning my career as a music teacher. Almost two decades later, while reading Lift Every Voice and Sing to my own boys, I couldn’t let go of the feeling that I needed to help get more books like these into the hands of parents and kiddos. The concept for Music Library was born and I have enjoyed every moment of my time spent working on it!

Music Library’s mission is to support
parents, Teachers and Caregivers On their journey
To raise life-long learners and avid readers
who become Participants In and patrons of the arts.

  • A child that reads an average of 30 minutes a day will have encountered 13.7 million words by the time they finish high school.1

  • The College Board identifies the arts as one of the six basic academic subject areas students should study in order to succeed in college.2

  • Cross-curricular teaching can increase a learner’s motivation for learning and level of engagement. When learners participate in interdisciplinary experiences they see the value of what they are learning.3
